John Spilman


John Spilman co-founded Union Grove Venture Partners in 2014. Prior to that, John joined Morgan Creek in November 2012 as a General Partner. Prior to joining Morgan Creek, John co-founded Kidogo Capital Management in June, 2010. Prior to that he had joined Montagu Newhall Associates (now Greenspring Associates) in January, 2009, bringing 18 years of public and private investment experience, where he was a Founder and Co-Portfolio Manager of Montagu Newhall Crossover Ventures I, L.P. From 2004 through 2008, he was a Partner atCrown Advisors International where he was a Co-Portfolio Manager of their private-public equity funds. During his tenure at Crown, John was focused on small and micro-cap public companies as well as select private company investments. John started his investment management career at Osprey Funds Management, a long-short U.S. public equity fund, and migrated with the management team to Soros Fund Management as an Analyst, and then to Tahoe Advisors as a Founding Partner and Co-Portfolio Manager. He also has several years of sell-side public equity experience at Brown Advisory, DB Alex. Brown, and Tucker Anthony. John previously had Board of Directors responsibilities for several of the Montagu Newhall direct private investments in the healthcare sector and is currently on the Advisory Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. John is a graduate of Denison University where he received a degree in Economics with a concentration in Mathematics.
